Honoring Melvin Sink
His name is on the Vietnam War Memorial
and he was a friend. I don’t remember how he died, but I do remember hearing
from my brother that he had died in a friendly fire incident. I remember being
told that he had volunteered for more than one tour of duty in
It was during the 60s that I knew
Melvin. He had built a hotrod from a 52 Ford that he had put into “cherry”
condition. None of us were from rich families and I admired Melvin, a high
school senior, for creating this beautiful car by himself.
Those were days of discovery for me. I
was a sophomore then and I had never had a friend with a car. I had never
known how cool it was to be riding down
Thanks, Melvin, for the ride and your service. We are still free today, my friend.
